Finally!
Endlich! Akhirnya! After almost 4 years living in Germany, last weekend, I
visited one of the most famous restos that hipster foodie must visit: Cocolo
Ramen!
I literally
have no idea why it took me 4 years to visit it. Well, actually I know it. First
I have no money for 2,5 years since I was a student and I was on a budget and
15 euro meal is actually quite expensive (well until now tbh). Therefore, I can't come to
Cocolo. Second, I was busy doing my horrible lovely thesis, so again no time.
Third, I had evening german class for 4 months, 4 days in a week for three
hours so yes, no time. And last, my partner (read: bf) didn’t want to go there
because he hates waiting. According to his inner german standard: "why I have to
wait for 30 minutes for food while there are other restaurants nearby?" Oh
German…
BUT! Merlin’s bread! All of sudden, he proposed to go there last weekend and it came out of
nowhere. I mean it was kinda cringeworthy situation for me since the last time
I brought him there, it was kinda drama for both of us. So, after surreal
moment and shit, I finally went there with him! YEAYHS!
And now,
let's talk about the real topic of this post: Cocolo Ramen. Well what is Cocolo? Cocolo Ramen is
actually a restaurant (in case you don’t know) and their speciality is Ramen
(just another FYI). I don’t know why but this resto is so famous and even considered
as the best ramen place in town. They said that their Tonkotsu Ramen is amazing
so I ordered one just to prove it.
When I arrived
there around 6pm something last Saturday, the place was packed already. We had to wait around
15-20 minutes to get a place (I know my bf hated it but he was so nice for not
commenting anything) and we finally sit on the bar. Right away, we ordered
Tonkotsu and Gyoza as appetizer. The verdict? Let me tell you below:
Gyoza:
Hmm I have
to say, the flavor is good. It's filled with veggies and fried in light
oil. The dipping sauce is nice as well but actually there's no special thing
about it. I mean it's good but I have tasted this kinda dumpling before in
other Japanese restaurant. Price: 4 €. So overall I give 8/10.
Tonkotsu:
Here we go!
First impression, it looked good and pretty and when I sipped the soup for the
first time, to be honest I was quite underwhelmed. I thought the soup will
be packed of flavor but the taste was pretty much too light for me. However, I
have to praise the ginger that they served (it's crazily fresh) and the pork
belly and the ham! That thing just so damn good! Like really good! So even though
that the broth wasn’t what I expected, at least the belly and the ham were
the winner! Price: 10 €. Overall: 8,5/10
Conclusion:
I guess
when I set my mind to go to Cocolo, I already have high expectation so I was
pretty much underwhelmed when I tasted that infamous Tonkotsu Ramen for real. I
mean, the broth somehow too light for my taste. However, compared to another Ramen place in Berlin, Cocolo still got the move. For me Ikkudo Ichi in Jakarta is still the best Ramen I have ever tasted but but (this is not typo, I just want to type two but(s) because WHY NOT?), if you ask me where you can find the best Ramen
place in town, Cocolo it is!
Where you can find Cocolo?
Let's ask google ;)
